SCAM Positive: Attention is a scam Negative: I have over 30 years of travel experience, and this was the first time I was ever scammed. When I arrived, I opened the mailbox as instructed — there were no keys for the building. I called the host’s number — a lady answered but pretended she couldn’t hear me. This was clearly a lie because my Romanian friends also called her and she suddenly “couldn’t hear them” either when they mentioned my situation. The only way to communicate was through the Booking.com chat — where they replied very slowly. They told me to enter the building using a code, but this was another lie because the door can only be opened with a key, not a code. Then they told me to wait for someone to come and help. I waited inside the foyer (thanks to a cleaning lady who opened the main door by chance), but nobody came to speak with me or hand me a key. I just received a message claiming “someone came and opened the building door” — which makes no sense, because I was already inside, alone, with no key. When I asked how I was supposed to come and go without keys, they said they would send someone again — nobody came. I had meetings to attend, so I had to book another hotel at my own cost. When I was already in my hotel, they sent me a picture claiming the key was “always in the mailbox” — total nonsense. Multiple people from the building and my friends saw there was never a key. I’ve filed a police report, started a chargeback, and contacted Booking.com. I strongly warn other travelers — its a normal scam.
